Shabbat 26 – How to handle your in-laws?

When learning today’s daf I realised all I really needed to do was quote the following:-

“A mother-in-law who hated her daughter-in-law said to her: Go adorn yourself with balsam oil. She went and adorned herself. When she came, he mother-in-law said to her: Go light the lamp. She went and lit the lamp. She caught fire and she was burned.”

Subtle!

By the way, to put this in some context, the Talmud is discussing the use of balsam oil for Shabbat candles/lights. The prohibition is based on the fact that the oil has a pleasant smell and a person may come to take some oil, thus coming to extinguish the lamp.
